CARABINERS / CONNECTORS

--THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW--

Most connectors have one of two rating systems.  The first known as the breaking strength, which is the maximum breaking strength of the carabiner. The other system is known as Safe Working Load (SWL) or Working Load Limit (WLL), which can be anywhere from a 4:1 or a 5:1 safety margin.  NFPA's systems is a 15:1 breaking strength, but this doesn't take into account the dynamics of a shock load.  It is known as a Static Rating.  Most industrial use items are rated for a 10:1 .  OSHA requires your system to have a 5,000 lbs rating per person or twice the force developed in a fall.  We use a 5:1 dynamic system, which takes into account the forces developed in a fall or shock load to the system.  To see how to figure the forces in a fall please refer to the Client Information Services, or feel free to give us a call, and we can help you figure out the forces in your system.
